Folk and traditional music

*Winner of the prestigious National Award from Sangeet Naatak Academy for folk and traditional music in the year 1992.

*Winner of "Sreemoyee Award" given by All Assam Silpi Divas Samiti

"A" grade Sugam Sangeet and folk music artist approved by All India Radio since 1972.

*Bagged the prize in the All India Inter University Youth Festival held at Mysore by playing "khol", and Assamese traditional instrument.

*Featured thrice in the National Programme of Music from All India Radio, Delhi in 1968, 1970 for folk songs and 1992,1993 for Sugam Sangeet.

*Produced "O Mur Deshar Maanuh" (O my Countrymen) which was sent to China under the Programme of Cultural Exchange of the Asia Pacific countries in 1990.

 *Awarded "Bastra Diya. Sipini Samaaj" with commendation prize in the Akashvani Annual Awards Competition in 1984.

*Awarded a merit certificate for composing music for radio documentary "Legend of Lohit" in 1989.

*Selected by the Govt. of Assam as a member of the Bench for finding a solution of the unification of the three "Gharanas" (styles) of the traditional devotional songs (bargeet) of Assam in 1990.

*Directed  two Assamese feature films "Nishi Ujagar" (Tele film) and "Juj" (Feature film) which was awarded Rajat Kamal in 1990.

*Performed in the India International Music Festival during March 1993 organized by Sangeet Naatak Academy and ICCR in Calcutta.

*Awarded "Sangeetacharya" by Jitendra Nath Sangeet Mahavidyalaya in September 1999.

*Honoured by the Press Club of Assam as chief guest of the month on 31.10.99.

Sugam Sangeet

Two compositions have been accepted as the Hymn of (i) All Assam Olympic Association and (ii) All Assam State Transport Corporation Workers' Union since 1967.

One composition has been broadcasted from all the stations of AIR. in the country for community singing lesson programme by Govt. Of India.

Represented Cultural Exchange Programme in Nepal in the year 1965.

First producer for Choral song from AIR, Ghy.

Performed in U.S.A. during 1993 in many states and also in U.K. in 1996.



Directed music for the films- Meghamukhi, Mainajan, Juj and Nishi Ujagar.

As a playback singer, rendered voice in 23 different Assamese films.

Acted in the Assamese film "Shakuntala" in 1961.

Rendered more than one hundred songs on Folk, Traditional-Devotional, Sugam Sangeet etc. on Gramophone Discs produced by HMV.

More than 350 songs have been recorded in about 45 different cassettes
