She
is born in a traditional family having a cultural background.
Her father was, Late.Samudranath Pathak, her mother, was Late.
Savitri Pathak, of Uzan Bazzar. Due to her father's
encouragement she was inclined towards the cultural field. Her
father was attached to every cultural activity and one
of the prominent member of Kamrup Natya Samiti. She was taught
singing specially Bangeet, by Ban Konwar, Anandaram Das
alongwith modern songs and folksongs. She got her first break
in the field of singing through the All India Radio in the
year 1948. She sang “Biya Naam”, “Gokhain Naam”, and
morden songs also. In 1949, she was married to the well known
family from Nagshankar, to Late. Shri T.R. Hatibaruah. As her
husband's family were also music and were cultural lovers, she
did not face any obstacles in her career and was
inspired by them. Due to their support and encouragement she
went on to become a popular actress in the Assamese Movies.
Presently she is staying at kanwachal, Guwahati. As her
husband stayed in Guwahati there was no problem for her
to work. In 1950 she was first offered to play a co-actor in
the drama named “karagar” at “Panbazaar Aizyo theatre
hall”. Due to family bindings she had to take a back seat
for many years from this field. After the first death
aniversary of the well known “Natak Surya” Mr.Phoni
Sarma’s
a drama competetion was organized where she again
got a chance to come out of the shadows after long years with
Eli Ahmed’s “Bahnkhodi”.After that there were several
openings that came her way and soon she got several awards all
over Assam. As nobody can keep fire under cover, her talent
pulled her towards in the Assamesse film industry. Till now
she has acted in Pulak Gogoi’s “Sindoor” and Dara
Ahmed’s “Dewta”, in the Doordarshan Tele Serials
“Acura Juee”, “Hake Nikhar Juna”, “Udong Bakaus”,
“Akhimat Hima”, “Aiye Sehorote”, “Papu Niku Sangbaad”,
“Zeevan Mrityu”, “Anubhav”, and documentary film
“Hey Maheswata” and Tele film “Birotir Gaan”. She has
also received Artists Pension from the Government of Assam.
She always feels that her talent is encouraged whenever she is
felicitated by the Artists' Forum.
