Dr. Anima Choudhary was born in Nalbari. However, it was in Nagaon
where Anima received her elementary education. When she was in grade
four she won the conveted award at the Assam Music Competition held
at Nagaon. Her road to success had already begun, and she never
looked back.
Little
Anima moved to Guwahati along with her parents when she was in grade
five. At this time she started an arduous regimen of training in
classical music with Hiren Sarma, a well-known music teacher of
Assam.
Anima
Choudhury auditioned to sing in the "Akanir Mel", the
Children Program of Guwahati Radio Station and started singing
regularly in "Eimahar Geet" (the song of the month), when
she was in grade five. By the time Anima was in grade seven, she was
singing solos on the radio program "Chemoniaar Coraa", The
Youth Corneer.
Anima started
college at the prestigious Cotton College in Guwahati. It was during
such a competition during her freshman year that she won the award
of the best singer in Cotton College. This competition was the
turning point in her career, she was discovered by the well-known
music director of Assamese movies, Raman Barua who signed her
immediately to sing playback song in his upcoming movie "Mukuta".
Anima's performance in this movie surpassed all her previous
accomplishment. Her song "O Pran Gopal Patila Mayare Khela"
became a hit overnight. Anima graduated from Cooton College with
major in History and went to pursue her post graduate studies in
History at Gauhati University.
Award of the Best
Singer in Gauhati University in 1973. At the same time she sang for
another Assamese film "Putula Ghar". In 1974 she got her
M.A. degree in History. In 1999 Anima got PH.D. degree from Gauhati
University for her thesis "Temples and Shrines in and arounmd
Guwahati: a Sociological and Folkloristic Exploration. At present
she has been in Chaygaon College , being the Head,of the depertment
of History
Dr. Anima has so
far recorded a number of songs on disks, mostly released by
H.M.V.,company. She has recorded innumerable songs in cassettes CD
etc released by various companies. In the mean time she sang for
another assamese movie "Prem Janame Janame".
Dr Choudhary is a
"A" grade artist of All India Radio and Doordarsan, where
she has sung innumerable songs. In 1989, she was sent to the Cuttack
TV station as the Assamese representative to participate in a
program on the culture of Northeast India for national TV network.
Oriya TV centre pursuaded her to sing Oriya songs also.
Anima
Choudhury is a "Visharad" in classical music and also a
regular singer of Bhajan and Ghazal at the Guwahati Radio Station .
She is also a popular stage-performing artist of Assam. Besides
every corner of Assam she has visited differnt places of India like
Kolkata, Delhi, Patna, Cuttak, Tawang etc as ainvited singer. In
1991 Anima had made her maiden voyage to the USA to participate in
the Assamese-American convention in Philadelphia. During her visit
to the USA, she also performed stage performance at Milwaki,
Chicago, Boston, Rodh Island , Newjersey, Newyork etc. She also
performed a program at Chicago TV.
Anima
Choudhury sang for a number of cassettes and CD of Assamese Modern
song, Kamrupi Lokageet, Goalparia Lokageet, Bargeet, Bihugeet,
Tokarigeet, Biyanaam, Namghosha, Rajasthani Geet Jyoti Sangeet.
BishnuRava Geet etc.
